ABOUT NORMA GRAY EARLY LEARNING CENTER
The Norma Gray Early Learning Center was established in 1973 as part
of a statewide system of regional early childhood centers, under
guidelines by the Governor’s Office and the Sta te Department of
Education. This Demonstration Day Care Project was the first program
in the community to serve children as young as two years of age. In
1975 the center was again the first to enroll children with special
needs.
In 1986, Early Learning and its companion demonstration
childcare program were the first childcare centers in WV to be
accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. In
1997, the Governor’s Cabinet on Children and Families also
recognized Early Learning for its exemplary practices.
The center was renamed the Norma Gray Early Learning
Center to honor River Valley Child Development Services’ executive
director and founder for her contributions to early care and
education throughout the community and state. Over the years the
center has helped thousands of tri-state families care for and
educate their young children.
